We proudly announce that our supply partner for organic cane sugar and organic ethanol, the Native Green Cane Project, has been awarded two prestigious environmental certifications.
Native is the first food company in the world to receive the certification of ethical sourcing system granted by the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) – an international non-profit association that established global standards for sustainable practices that respect biodiversity and reduce biodiversity loss.
UEBT’s “Sourcing with Respect” seal, recognizes the principles that guide ethical supplying. This certification allows consumers and manufacturers to buy brands, products, and ingredients that are contributing to a world where biodiversity and all people thrive.
Equally impressive, Native’s São Francisco Mill, which produces organic ethanol and cane sugar, was just awarded RenovaBio certification. This certification seeks to encourage an increase in the production and use of environmentally friendly biofuels in Brazil’s energy matrix to fulfill commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Among 220 certified plants that produce ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil, Native received the highest energy efficiency score. The certification recognizes that Native’s mill contributes to the mitigation of greenhouse gases (GHG) and can receive 55,655 Decarbonization Credits (CBIOs) for sale on the stock exchange for 3 years. You can read more about Native’s sustainable practices here.
We have partnered with the Native Green Cane Project in Brazil for over 20 years and they continue to show impressive results from their continuous efforts to practice regenerative farming. The addition of these two certifications confirms their role as a world leader in truly sustainable agriculture.
